Wyndham, WA

Today’s the day to do the ‘track’ in reverse to get us back out onto the hard-top. We unpacked the glass bottled stuff out of the fridge into a cooler bag, wrapped the cups and plates and microwave dish in towels and then gaffa taped the doors shut.

Getting out, the road seemed to be even rougher than going in, but we emerged unscathed, except for the odd tooth filling…

After the 16km driveway is negotiated, it’s only 84km into Wyndham, which looks pretty desolate, but where we found the only caravan park to be a gem, a virtual oasis. The #1 reason travellers give for coming here is to go up to the ‘5 rivers’ lookout, which we did, right after a feed at The Rusty Shed café and a poke around the wharf and the museum.

From the lookout, you can view part of the Cambridge Gulf, into which 5 rivers empty: The King, Durack, Pentacost, Forrest and Ord. Must be one hell of a lotta water come the wet season. Today however, it is the Dry and it must be low tide as well as there are salty mud flats for miles and miles and miles.

Had to view the Big Crocodile and then slid back to the van for a rest.

Here's a view from the lookout:
