Cowra NSW

Sunday 1st June

Up early, but not too early. Moving about putting the last things together, wondering about what clothes to take, what to leave behind. Those last things packed away in the van, a last coffee with Lauren and Daniel. Top-up the tank and the jerry-can and back home to hook-up and then we're off!

We left in rain and it kept up out to the other side of Yass, where we had stopped for a feed at the BigM. By the time we got to Boorowa it had started again and kept up all the way into Cowra.

The countryside is a picture, lush green grass studded with wooly white sheep, freshly ploughed fields ready for the Canola seeds that turn the hills into a bright yellow carpet by spring, and herds of cows munching their heads off. We are experts now, there are brown ones, black ones, red ones and black ones with a broad white belt. At least the black and white ones have a name: Belted Galloways.

Having settled into our allocated spot in the Cowra Van Park, we took a stroll up the back street, cut across to Kendal Street which doubles as the highway and as it started into rainy again headed back to the van. We may have had ideas of a coffee in a nice cosy shoppe but it being Sunday and Maccas being open, all others were either closed or empty. The only sign of life was in the fish 'n chip shop, where the cook and his helper sat forlornly staring out the window waiting for the non-existent rush.

At least we found out about the red cows, they are Red Angus, according to a sign we were reading in town.

We made ourselves a cup of tea and ate our muffins before doing the only thing one can do when its pouring rain, settled down and had a nice long nap. Dinner was already organised, the local motel, The Manor House was advertising a Sunday Roast for $12.50, so that's where we headed at the appropriate time. I can't say I remember ever having roast beef where its been cut into thin slices like ham from the deli: it didn't do it for me, I like my roasts to be big and fat and juicy!

Anyhow, as usual, I'll stick a couple of snaps in here: the first is our new rig in its first ever camp site. It's right on the bank of the Lachlan River, but it's an odd place, there's about 20 vans in, all lined up at their respective concrete slabs along the river like little regimented soldiers. But it seems like a really nice place and we hope to get out tomorrow and see some of the sights such as the Japanese Gardens, last seen in 2009 and before that in 1991.

The second is a lovely moss covered liquid amber up on Kendal Street, just beautiful.

I fibbed, there's three snaps, i wonder if the young ladies remember this shot?
