I went for a walk down along the path just behind the beach, right down almost to Glenelg, then back along the beach itself. They must have had some really big seas and storms here as the dune backing the beach is now a cliff face and evidently a whole boardwalk from along the beach has just vanished.
I needed to do some work on one of our cupboards and a visit to Bunnings was called for. Now, say what you may about the Ford, but i jumped into its sat nag and told it to find me a Bunnings, which it did quick smart, coming back with 3 choices. Why oh why did we have have to choose the one that took us past IKEA? Good grief, its like a drug. There were hundreds of people prowling the car park and ten times that inside. They were lined up ten deep to dump their kids in the play room and fighting each other for a table in the pig-pen. And we hadn't entered the shop itself as yet. What a place. What a marketing concept. Everywhere you look there are must have items and all seemingly as cheap as chips. Talk about retail therapy. I think before we had made it past the first half of the top floor we had remodelled the unit down the road and half the house. I had to keep reminding Judy that we lived in a caravan and I have to congratulate her on showing some remarkable restraint! jb comment: I will make up for the restraint if an IKEA ever comes to Canberra. Watch out!
Having extracted ourselves from the emporium of consumer delights and fought back the impulse to rush the fast food outlet, which is quite separate from the aforementioned pig-pen, we escaped back to the car.
You can't go to Adelaide and not go to Glenelg, which apart from being on the beach, is the place they first settled and also where the only remaining tram runs from into the city.
Ah, it was just like prowling around any snotty suburb of Sydney or St Kilda in Melbourne. Nowhere to park, one-way every way except your way and 2 1/2 second parking, if you can fluke one. Well not quite, but I'm sure you know what i mean. We did find a 1 hour park in Jetty Road and strolled up toward the tram and the Jetty. We were looking for lunch and they mostly looked either too seedy or to pretentious to be considered. We found ourselves at the Stamford Hotel, which incidentally looks just like a giant sand-castle, and reading the list of rules to be obeyed if one wanted to partake of Adelaide's most awesome hamburger. We checked each other out and as we appeared to be qualified, we entered and ordered and fell off our bar stools when they brought out the biggest burger I've ever seen. Why did we choke these down? I dunno, but it tasted so great and the complimentary glass of wine helped. And, compared to most other eateries' offerings, dirt cheap. We were sitting in a window watching the world float by when a small group of young persons turned up and started to do a 'shoot' in front of the artistically decorated containers. Being the charitable folk we are, we decided that they were CIT student doing a project and not an advertising shoot for the local house of ill-repute.
After lunch we continued down the rabbit warren that is Adelaide's coastal street system, getting as far as Kingfisher bay before deciding on a return to the van park and a well earned nap.
We went out later for our walk but it was howling and cold and pretty miserable really so we threw the sneakers in and retired to the comfort and warmth of our van for the night.

So sad to see that you are back in your winter gear. But don't worry, I don't thinks we are going to be too far behind you. We are in Bargara Beach at the moment, (near Bundaberg). The days are quite nice but we almost had to turn on the heater last night. Oh dear!
