Uluru NT Ayres rock sunset Eldunda

Slid down the road to Yulara in 6 1/2 hours, including fuel and a feed at Erldunda. The heap is starting to give good kilometridge now that I know to manually select 6th gear. Now it's giving me 14L / 100km, bit better on the hip pocket nerve that 20+ !

Anyhow, we made it into the Ayres Rock resort campground and settled into our designated spot. First thing we notice is that compared to 2 years back, the place is deserted, well almost.

Wandered over to the shopping village and bought a few bits 'n pieces at the grocery shop before hitting the new cafe. Read several day-old or so papers and ate interesting Anzac bikkies while scoffing quite acceptable coffee. It was almost deja vu as almost on cue the indigenous dance group appeared and started to put on their show for the collected rubber-neckers (that's us). Quite entertaining it was as they shared a number of traditional dances with us. They did the usual kangaroos and emus and the like, but one fellow did a fabulous brolga though, he was tall and skinny and moved almost sinuously, hopping about and flapping his wings.

As the sun moved closer to its resting place in the west, we joined the throng driving out to the designated Uluru Sunset parking area and prepared for the daily show. Now, you'd think that the 10,000 photos from 2012 would be enough for anyone, wouldn't you? But no, there we were snapping away like the rest of the mad crowd.

Here's a few to show the change in colour as the sun sets.

Sun's getting low as we drive out to the gates. Uluru NT (Ayres Rock)

The best colour shot, The sun is lower, but not on the horizon yet. Uluru NT (Ayres Rock)

There is a tourist scrum, maybe 200 cars and 20 bus load's worth. Uluru NT (Ayres Rock)

Just about set. Uluru NT (Ayres Rock)

Sun all but gone, really too dark to get any more worth looking at. Uluru NT (Ayres Rock)
