Geraldton WA June 1 2018

Our only thing we did today, apart from another run-in with Centrelink, was a visit to the Museum, which we first saw in 2002 not long after it opened. The main attraction is the Shipwrecks Gallery with its feast of artefacts from the Batavia, wrecked off the coast on Houtman Abrolhos in 1629. The wreck lay there on the Morning Reef for over 300 years, but now it has all been recovered, some of the artefacts are here, the timbers are in Fremantle in the maritime museum.

These stones were used as ballast on the Batavia in 1629 but were originally destined  for the VOC fort at Batavia  (Jakarta) in the East indies (Indonesia). They have been re-erected to show how they would have looked had they completed their journey. Geraldton WA
