Mulambin Beach & Great Keppel Island Qld 25-27 August 2019 Last time we came this way was in 2014 and we stayed at Kinka Beach, with which I was less than impressed, mostly because it's a mudflat hidden behind thick mangrove and scrub foliage. Mulabin is the next beach north, a distance of about 1/2 a kilometre. Now I'm not going to say that its a million percent better, but at least its readily accessible, and is more a flat tidal beach than a mudflat. Our stay was made all the better for staying at the 'new' NRMA Capricorn Yeppoon Holiday resort. It was obviously an old park, but had been done up really well. The most appealing thing to us is good sized sites with screening vegetation for privacy, and first-class amenities. It was just a peaceful relaxing kind of place. Mulambin Beach from the south end. Kinky Beach? Well, no not really. We are on the coast right opposite the Keppel Islands and as is the case all the way up the coast from here, there is no surf beach, just tidal mudflats that stretch out almost to the island. On my first visit I walked out of the park, across the road to where the sign proclaims "Beach Access" and followed the path. This led me straight into a mangrove swamp, which I then had to walk around, still following a sort of path. Then you get to the other side and you are faced with a traverse of some low sand dunes covered in all kinds of creepers and vines and things, and then you get to the .... mud flats! There were fresh footprints so i felt safe enough to follow them along and find an easier access, which i did eventually, through a mangrove swamp that was dry because it was low tide. Oh well, just have to find another beach, there seems to be an endless supply of them up and down the coast from here. There are some towns near here, on...
