Mulambin Beach & Great Keppel Island Qld 25-27 August 2019 Last time we came this way was in 2014 and we stayed at Kinka Beach, with which I was less than impressed, mostly because it's a mudflat hidden behind thick mangrove and scrub foliage. Mulabin is the next beach north, a distance of about 1/2 a kilometre. Now I'm not going to say that its a million percent better, but at least its readily accessible, and is more a flat tidal beach than a mudflat. Our stay was made all the better for staying at the 'new' NRMA Capricorn Yeppoon Holiday resort. It was obviously an old park, but had been done up really well. The most appealing thing to us is good sized sites with screening vegetation for privacy, and first-class amenities. It was just a peaceful relaxing kind of place. Mulambin Beach from the south end. Fairly short run of 340km today, leaving Mount Magnet and heading west, passed through Mullewa where we stopped for a cuppa, and on into Geraldton. We are camped-up in the Belair van park, which is just south of the town centre and right across the road from a beach, which I think is Point Moore beach. At least that's what the lighthouse is called so I'll go with that. All the beaches here are open to vehicles and this one started to fill up as families came out to play and fishos to fish. They are having a bit of an uphill battle trying to stop the ocean taking back the sand dunes, they may be fenced off to keep us out and let the vegetation re-grow, but nobody told the water it wasn't allowed to cut chunks of the dune away. All rested up after 2 days in Ceduna, today we headed west again heading for the Head-of-Bight, the Nullarbor Roadhouse, the quarantine station over the border in Western Australia and Eucla. There is little one can say about the road for the 510 km of it we followed today: it is flattish, straightish and reasonably boring. The boredom is interspersed with the attractions listed above. Yes, you could take the other little side-trips to what used to be known as Lookout numbers 1-3, but having seen them before, and the cliffs at the Head-of-Bight as recently as today, there seemed little need to stop. 'They' had said that there were at least 3 whales that had come early to the Head-of-Bight whale watching centre, which they may have, the only one we saw was a mile out and just a speck of white foam. Albany WA April 20, 2015 We awoke to another day of full on sunshine - that's two in a row... I went for an early long walk on the beach, and still only got halfway along toward Emu Point. We started our day at the Anzac Memorial, high on Mt Adelaide overlooking the harbour. To give you some background, This is the very harbour from which the 1st and 2nd convoys of Australian and New Zealand troops left for Gallipoli in 1914. Some 40,000 troops had been assembled on a whole pile of ships, and they complete with a bevy of warships, all gathered here in the harbour, right below this very point. High up here was also where the garrison and guns were housed in the Princess Royal Fortress, built in 1893, as part of the coastal defences for Australia. Princess Royal Fortress. 1983.
