Moree NSW 24 July 2026

Moree NSW 24 July 2026 Left Stanthorpe and headed to Moree. Took a backroad, a ‘C’ road at best. Tedious, bumpy, rough, slow. 80-85 was about it. Stopped at Texas to settle down for a half hour. Coffee and scone.  Texas. Queensland. July 2026 Back out onto the road and picked up the Bruxner Highway. Who are they kidding? Heaps better than the last goat track, but not fantastic. Turned left and headed to Warialda, another ‘C’ road and worse than the last. It was a toss-up what would break first, me or the van. Finally we arrived at Warialda and we just had to stop again. Found a little park and had a sandwich by the side of the van. From Warialda we picked up the Newell Highway and had an easy run across into Moree. Now, we have stayed at Moree once before and I swore i’d never come back, but here we are. Fortunately we are in a different park, The G’day park just out of town on the Newell Highway and it's reasonably pleasant. They have a little hot spring so we had a soak. Lov...

Cardwell Qld August 4th 2023

Cardwell Qld August 4th 2023 As is often the case, at 7am it wasn’t actually raining. A bit windy but warm enough and dry. I took myself off down to the start of the Kennedy Walking Track and proceeded to make the 2.5km trek across the headland and along the beach to Mije Creek. First though, I was really surprised at the debris thrown up and right across the road from the high tides and howling wind last night. The track itself was its normal slightly damp self, being in a rainforest and all, and the beach was pristine. Not one footprint upon it and the tide right out. I had a lovely walk right down to the end marked by Mije Creek. As I turned around and started back, it started raining lightly, which was okay, not afraid of a little damp. But then it started really raining, forcing me to take cover under the forrest canopy. It only lasted a few minutes and then I was on my way again. Lovely! Port Douglas Qld July 30th 2023

Port Douglas Qld July 30th 2023 A photo shoot kind of blog today.... The original Parkrun on the Esplanade in Cairns. My fourth attendance. Tried for  a PB but fell 2 minutes short. The course is different from the first visits and is quite a good track. Cairns Qld Palms at Palm Cove, northernmost part of Cairns. One of Judy's favourite places.  We saw this string of empty carriages being shunted in as we were pulling into our caravan park. The line used to run right through the park and service the fields further down Mowbray Road. I just loved the early morning sunlight painting highlights on these rusty battered but still very much in used carriages. Glengarry Qld Kookaburra sitting on the proverbial wire. This is when you wish you had a proper camera with a long lens. Oh well, at least the phone fits in my pocket! Glengarry Qld Port Douglas Markets. Every Sunday whether they need them or not. Port Douglas Qld Unusual rear view of the Sugar Shed. Built in 1905 to hous...
