South Mission Beach Qld Tuesday 16 Aug 2022 Back on our own and back on the road. Strolled does to South Mission beach where we lucked into a good spot in the van park. Lots of roadworks between Cairns and Innisfail, but should be really good when they are done. Had to restock the van after its 10 days stay in the parking-lot and as I forgot to leave the fridge door open, there was a big mouldy mess to clean up as well. Not to worry, all good now and settled into the beach lifestyle. South Mission Beach Qld South Mission Beach Qld Drove up to town, Mission Beach proper, and it seems more deserted than ever. Had a coffee in a place on the corner that has live music rock and roll and blues. The lady assured us that there was an ‘international star’ coming through tomorrow and that we should book. So we did. We’ll see how that pans out!   The Blues Bar and Cafe panned out pretty well actually. The lady’s name was Millie Marx and she was a one woman show, in that she play...

South Mission Beach Qld 18 August 2019

South Mission Beach Qld 18 August 2019 Finally had a few very pleasant days lazing about in the sunshine here in and around Mission Beach. Friday the skies cleared and the warm weather came back. We spent some time on the beach, in the pool, and wandering about. Saturday we were up 5:45am to get down to Cardwell, which is 70km south of here. I wanted to do the Parkrun, which starts at 7am and is one of the most pleasant I've done to date. It runs from this jetty and along a perfect path right along the ocean, down almost to the entry to Hinchinbrook Harbour. Cardwell,Qld After the run, we had breakfast at the nearby cafe before venturing down to have a look around this troubled marina development. The harbour has silted up, the operators and developers have gone bust, several times, the place is neglected and run down Hinchinbrook Harbour. Cardwell Qld Hinchinbrook Harbour. Townsville Qld July 30 2015

Townsville Qld July 30 2015 Just a transport day today: Palm Cove to Townsville down the fabulous Bruce. I suppose I shouldn't keep slagging it off, but really, considering the sheer volume of traffic, not to mention the numerous tiny towns and cane-train crossings, its just downright dangerous. From Palm Cove its a 75km run in 1 hour, and that’s taking the back-way off the bypass. And then it was traffic as usual, anything from 70 to 90kph all the way down to Cardwell, about a 150km, where we, and 10,000 other caravans stopped for lunch. The Bruce runs right through Cardwell and is right on the beach. It’s a small, nice town and strangely, while we sat there feeding our faces, the Bruce was eerily quiet, except for a few odd trucks cruising through. Cardwell Qld Cardwell Qld  Cardwell Qld After lunch we noticed that most of the caravans had left, so we set of expecting the worst - but wait - a minor miracle happened and the road was clear ahead of us and we hi...
