Kununurra

Here we are heading off to places we haven’t been before. It felt good to be out there discovering new things again. The scenery is forever changing and as we approached Victoria River we decided a stop to have a look around was required. We crossed the Victoria River which is still a full and mighty river. The country is now similar to what we have seen previously with red soil and huge rocky outcrops. We feel as though we are now back in the outback. Once again you can feel the age of this amazing country. All around there are the remnants of mountain ranges of long ago. All that is left is rock strewn hillsides and the odd outcrop of huge eroding boulders. After a well deserved short break and refreshing ourselves with icecream we headed towards Timber Creek for our lunch break. A delightful little stop under the shade of large gum trees for 30 min or so before the last 200km to Kununurra. It was starting to get a little tedious counting down the kilometres to the WA border but finally we made it. A stop for the quarantine checkpoint and all I had to declare today was an almost empty jar of honey. Set the clocks back 90 min and off we went for the final 35 km to Kununurra. Queued up to get into the van park as everyone seemed to arrive at the same time. Found our ensuite site and settled in. So far we have had some very nice spots and this is no exception.  We decided to head straight to the visitor information centre to book some tours. It is very easy to forget what day it is and we arrived just in time before they closed. Not all the news was good though. The flight and 4WD tour we have been expecting to do to the Bungle Bungles has been booked out for weeks. DRAT. We then said, OK book us on the other tour BUT apparently even though there are three tours, there is only one plane for all  the tours at the same time! Yep, that makes it about 4 people per tour. Oh well, luckily we were at least able to get on a scenic flight over the Bungles for Monday. Just…. as it was pretty full too. We also booked an Ord River and Lake Argyle tour for tomorrow. Mmmm Argyle Diamonds, watch out Brian! Went to Coles, replenished the fruit and veg and headed back to the van for a champagne...or 2.

Snap of the day
