Big day in the saddle, 460k. Stopped at Cloncurry for lunch, which consisted of a pie at the bakery, the only shop apart from Woolies that was still open. Our plan was to try our hand at free camping at a place about 60k from the Isa, but that would have meant stopping on the side of the road at 1:30 and watching the traffic for the rest of the day. Thanks, but no. We pushed on up to the Isa itself, and even though I maintained I’d never come here again, here we are, back in the same van park just out of town.
Went in to the town and had a coffee and bought a few bits at the shops, then back to the van via the lookout. Took the same snaps as last year, just because I could!
All the news in town is that the mine will definitely close in 2019, but before then, they will shed all the fly-in, fly-out contractors and support the locals as long as possible. Might be real interesting to come back in 10 years time, it would be a ghost town by then.

Queenscliff Vic March 25, 2015 Set out cross-country style to get from Bendigo to Queenscliff, using all the A, B & C roads we could find. Fairly pleasant trip actually and we saw a bit of the country and a few little towns like Gisbourne and Bacchus Marsh. Didn't really see them as such, just drove through, didn't even stop for coffee as they are old style towns with no place to park a car and van. Made it into Queenscliff and back into the same spot we had last time. Narooma NSW, Australian Fur Seal, Stingray, Mill Bay Boardwalk

Egad! Our penultimate day on the loose. What is a body to do? These bodies decided to take a little run up the coast to Narooma. The first thing you notice is how much the place has changed in the last few years, especially around the main tourist area. Big wide road, roundabouts, off street parking. First we had a poke around Black Bream Point, where we spent a few days back in 2002 when we had the boat. Black Bream Point is the name of the cabins and the point out on the back lake where we stayed. It's still there, which surprised me a bit and even seems to be a bit more up market than before, and certainly the prices have moved northward. Our favourite memory was cruising around the lake and going over to the cafes on the other side for lunch. Is there anything more satisfying than tieing up your boat at the cafes own jetty before strolling in for lunch and coffee? Leaving Darwin, June 8, 2012

Yes, that's right, we've hitched up the Mitsubishi MAC truck and after changing the electrical connector on the van we is good to go. Funny feeling though as we had become quite settled in our little possie here at Shady Glen caravan park. First stop was Adelaide River where we wanted to check out the War Graves Cemetery. It's a really pleasant and peaceful lawn cemetery, the final resting place of 434 men and women killed in action on Australian soil during WW2. It also contains a memorial to the 292 other persons missing in action whose bodies were never found. As you walk around you are struck by the overwhelming young age of these people, most not more than 22. We've become used to the idea of war graves in France and Turkey, but to see them here, right under your own feet on Australian soil is sobering. At one end are the graves of the 9 Post Office Workers, the first civilians to die during the first air raid on Darwin. Its a tragic place and a poignant remind...
