Well, no not really. We are on the coast right opposite the Keppel Islands and as is the case all the way up the coast from here, there is no surf beach, just tidal mudflats that stretch out almost to the island. On my first visit I walked out of the park, across the road to where the sign proclaims "Beach Access" and followed the path. This led me straight into a mangrove swamp, which I then had to walk around, still following a sort of path. Then you get to the other side and you are faced with a traverse of some low sand dunes covered in all kinds of creepers and vines and things, and then you get to the .... mud flats!
There were fresh footprints so i felt safe enough to follow them along and find an easier access, which i did eventually, through a mangrove swamp that was dry because it was low tide.
Oh well, just have to find another beach, there seems to be an endless supply of them up and down the coast from here.
There are some towns near here, one called Emu Park and the other called Rosslyn Bay, which is where the boat to Great Keppel island goes from.
We had a quick look at Emu Park last night, its main claim to fame is this monument to Captain Cook:
Singing Ship Monument to Capt Cook |
It supposedly 'sings' when the wind whips through the faux rigging |
Great Keppel island You can see how shallow it is, and this was high tide! |
