Perth WA, Kings Park, Shenton Park, Cottesloe Beach

Perth WA. May 02, 2015
Today we did a leisurely nostalgia drive around the places we frequented when we lived here in 1974.
My old photos are complete rubbish, so I won't even try to do a before-and-after gallery.

First of all, our place we lived in in Allen St East Fremantle

Then  the Old Mill in South Perth, built by Bill Shenton in 1835. It used to be open all the time and had a few other things such as logging jinkers there as well, but now, its just the mill itself and its out building, and of course its overshadowed by the freeway.

Then we moved onto Kings Park, which used to be a nice, cool, green restful place overlooking the city, such as it was. Today it is 10x better than that, the work they have done developing the park, the botanical gardens and of course, the magnificent War Memorial is just brilliant.

Shenton Park (the same fellow who built the mill) is next. Judy and I went there a heap of times to feed the swans (yes, it's true, but totally unacceptable in these enlightened times). I have a lovely photo of Judy and my mother here, and I'll put it in because I can

Here is todays snap from about the same place. No mother sadly, Judy was collapsed in the car and the swans seem to have made themselves scare, along with the water in the pond.

Last on our list was Cottesloe Beach, substantially unchanged (the beach itself, wall to wall zillion dollar houses over the road). We bought ice-cream and walked to the north end of the beach.

Anyhow, that was our day, we came back via one of the many shopping centres, filled up the car with go-go juice ready for tomorrow, and zoomed back to the van to relax and get an early night.

It's not going to happen. The van park is putting on a free picture show night, and it is outdoors, right behind or van. The noise is really, really loud, the movie probably quite forgettable. Masters of the universe or some such sci-fi thing.
