Eucla WA. Thursday May 24, 2018

All rested up after 2 days in Ceduna, today we headed west again heading for the Head-of-Bight, the Nullarbor Roadhouse, the quarantine station over the border in Western Australia and Eucla.

There is little one can say about the road for the 510 km of it we followed today: it is flattish, straightish and reasonably boring. The boredom is interspersed with the attractions listed above. Yes, you could take the other little side-trips to what used to be known as Lookout numbers 1-3, but having seen them before, and the cliffs at the Head-of-Bight as recently as today, there seemed little need to stop.

'They' had said that there were at least 3 whales that had come early to the Head-of-Bight whale watching centre, which they may have, the only one we saw was a mile out and just a speck of white foam. Bit disappointing, but only to be expected given that the season doesn't really start till June. Maybe next time.

Look closely. See that white dot? Could be a whale. Head-of-bight SA

See that! One good looking lady. Head-of-bight SA

Back out onto the highway and up the road a few kilometres, you come to the Nullarbor Roadhouse, where we pulled in to fill up, having already done 340km and with another 170 to go, and had a really nice chicken burger. And what was all the fuss about going out whale watching? There's one right here on the forecourt.

Just in case you wanted to know... Nullarbor Roadhouse SA

This is the oddest sign. Can you spot the obvious omission? Nullarbor Roadhouse SA
The nice folk at the WA border quarantine inspection place were being their usual thorough selves and it took about 20 minutes to get through. We were onto them this time though, Judy had cooked all the fresh vegetables the night before and she ate the banana this morning. I finished off the remaining apple (we missed it at the last checkpoint!) before we got there and disposed of the core 'thoughtfully'.

We pulled into the not-so-vacant caravan park at Eucla, found a suitable spot and then went down to see the only attraction not in town: the old telegraph station. The first thing you see is the graffiti, some witless idiot has decided that it needed to be tagged so they could brag to their equally dimwitted mates. Grrrrrr. This make me cross, but don't take my word for it, you be the judge.
